# How do I know if a business name is available?

You can search for business name availability using the Montana Secretary of State’s online portal: [https://biz.sosmt.gov/search](https://biz.sosmt.gov/search). Enter your desired name to see if it’s in use. Name availability isn’t guaranteed until your registration is completed and approved.
