# What is ICEC or contractor registration?

ICEC stands for the Independent Contractor Exemption Certificate. It verifies that you operate as an independent contractor (not an employee) in Montana. Contractor registration applies to those in the construction industry. The Montana Department of Labor and Industry manages more details and applications.
